Sea buckthorn berries, also known as “northern lemons”, have an unusually high vitamin C content (much higher than lemons or oranges). Depending on the variety, this varies between approx. 200 and 900 mg per 100 g of pulp. Vitamin B12, which otherwise occurs almost exclusively in animal food, is also contained in the valuable berry. Sea buckthorn berries also contain large amounts of beta-carotene and tannins.

Sea buckthorn pulp contains between three and five percent oil. Even when dried, the sea buckthorn oils, which are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, remain in the fruit. The high proportion of carotenes combine practically the entire vitamin complex. It also contains a high proportion of palmitoleic acid.

Sea buckthorn berries are also a good alternative for horses that don't like the taste of rose hips and a valuable feed supplement, especially in the cold winter months.
